Scotland’s Independence Referendum Party calls for Liberals to suspend campaign director
Following the revelations in a Glasgow-based newspaper relating to Scottish Lib Dem election director Alex Cole-Hamilton, Scotland’s Independence Referendum Party has demanded his immediate removal from post and suspension from the party until investigations have concluded.
The Edinburgh Western MSP faces a probe into election expenses dating from last year’s Holyrood campaign.
The Herald has confirmed that a report has been passed by the polis to the Procurator Fiscal.
Commenting, Mark R Whittet, Leader of Scotland’s Independence Referendum Party and the party’s candidate in the Edinburgh West parliamentary seat in tomorrow’s election, said:
“These are very serious revelations and the Liberals must immediately remove Alex Cole-Hamilton as the party’s general election director.
“The people of Scotland are entitled to no less, and the voters in Edinburgh West expect nothing less than absolute probity from their candidates.
“When concerned arose about the private business affairs of Michelle Thomson, the former SNP MP for Edinburgh West was suspended by the party.
“The Liberals must demonstrate the same level of trust and honesty with the voting public so as to prevent their brand from also being contaminated here in Edinburgh West.”
